Ailsa Marr Hatton, born in 1893, was the elder of Brian's two younger sisters. This crayon drawing was created in 1904 when Ailsa was eleven years old. This a very detailed study of a young girl with much attention given to her face in profile, her long curling hair and her frilled dress. The artist, Brian Hatton, achieved these fine and delicate lines using pencil and conte crayon with white chalk highlights on Ailsa's dress.
