My Dear Mother,
According to your sketch (such a gloss depicted in so few flowing lines) your hair must be ‘illigant’ anything almost would be reliefe after the other coffee-er or whatever you call it.  I can’t write for taffy with this ‘ere pen she be a’ trying to dig graves in the paper all the time).  Dr. L. has vaccinated me again in three places (I was done in 4 before) + it hasn’t taken in the least anymore nor if I warnt done at all ‘whateffer’ – so Dr. says as how I be proof against smallpox, cow pox or any pox except a pox on the ear.  Last Mon. we went for a ride in the morning, took the gees on sandhills, as good as a switchback (see sketches) it’s as much as you do to keep from slipping backwards over the horses tails one minute and vice versa the next.  Awfully beastly lark donther know aw yes by jove rather! etc. I have started modeling a trotting in the red wax in fact it is quite 2/3 done [sketch] it has to have a support up the middle as the one leg isn’t strong enough the Plasticine is very easy to mould, they sent 3 lb.  Elton is + has been in bed for some days not at all well last night Mrs. L. had to sleep in my bed + I had to sleep with the Dr. in a FEATHER bed.  awful rot.  Ailsa’s letter was excellent I thought + the writing superb.  I haven’t any more time so best love to all.
Your very loving
son,
Brian.
