'Egyptian Fellah'. This was painted when Brian accompanied the Flinders-Petrie expedition to Egypt in 1908. A lone figure in a desert landscape. His long dark garment is in stark contrast to the bright white covering to his head and neck and casts a long dark shadow across the sands. He holds a stick across his shoulders, perhaps as a yoke to carry heavy goods. This work shows the hurried brushstrokes of the artist working rapidly in the heat of the day from models with very little time to spare from the work of the expedition.
