My dear old Dad
Just a line in haste to say I have had the offer of a commission in the Denbighshire Yeomanry. GW Raper recommended me apparently. He is a good old sort. I have written to ask what the expenses are likely to be before clinching. If they are not very much beyond my pay I think I ought to risk it, as the pay will be accumulating when I am abroad and will probably counterbalance them or more. A 2nd Lieut gets 8/6 per day and with messing allowances etc, 12/6 while in England at present. Kit allowance £50. I can draw horses and saddlery etc from the army stores for ink (?) They would be quite good enough for me. I will let you know developments. There is no news. I’ve got the usual cold that everyone has got. I seem to be on guard about every other night now.
With much love. In haste.
Brian
