This elegant pencil and wash drawing, created in 1911, shows another facet of Lydia May Bidmead, (later Mrs Brian Hatton). Lydia May, (Biddy), has been described as dancer, talented teacher and performer and each of these drawings, all dated 1911, seem to focus on a particular aspect of her personality. This image shows elegance, refinement and perhaps a serious aspect not evident in the other drawings. The fine pencil lines and rosy watercolour captures her delicate beauty. Lydia May Bidmead was married to Brian Hatton by soldier's licence on 5th November 1914. Their daughter Mary was born the following year.
