My dear Old Dad,

I expect you would like to know how I got on ay Windsor yesterday so I will endeavour to write a few lines about it, since it doesn’t happen to me everyday – or at least it hasn’t so far.

I found Princess Alexandra very fresh and jolly and soon got over any feelings I was to have of nervousness I may had had when being ushered in to her.  The children too were very jolly and just like any others of course.  Prince Rupert aged 5, had to be smacked by his old nurse and he smacked her back in return.  They rode a rocking horse while the Princess read aloud to them, incidentally mispronouncing ‘Hesperides.’   She also insisted on sitting on one of their little chairs and stuck fast in it.  So I had to pull her up and pull it off her afterwards!   Needless to say the children were in great glee and she herself nearly had hysterics.  I had lunch with her and a lady of uncertain age, whom I gathered was the Chaplain’s or the Dean’s daughter brought in to chaperone us!  I noticed a fact that might interest you. Viz. that the Princess wore patent leather shoes which squeaked audibly.  The king and queen were in residence and were to have paid a short call just after I left.  So they just missed seeing me.

An interesting item of Court News – Prince John’s box of bricks which he had lost for several days were found in the King’s sitting room yesterday – I finished the drawings of the little Prince and Princess to their parent’s satisfaction I think.  I also began one of Princess Alexandra which I was to have gone back to finish tomorrow but I have just received a wire asking me to postpone the sitting until Tuesday.

Today I went to Slough to draw a girl of about 15.  which I did and it was good.  Hope the invalids are progressing well at Milton Villa.
Much love to all of you.  It is pouring  cats and dogs again tonight.

Your loving Brian
