At sea near Malta

Oct. 19th 1915

My dear Old Dad,

We are due at Malta tomorrow so I am just scribbling a line to say I’m all right.  We landed at Gib at 2am Monday morning for an hour to pick up  .. and I saw my letter taken ashore in a pillowslip.  I expect they had to  wait until a passing ship took them off again as they don’t go overland from Gib.  We are going very slowly  now as the captain evidently doesn’t want to arrive at Malta before he is due.  There hasn’t been a ripple in the water since Gib. and usually quite hot.  We have kept in sight of the high mountains of the African coast all the way.   Yesterday we passed a hospital ship – I wished I had been on it coming back to all I had left behind, including poverty! (The latter accompanies me everywhere).   We are going to drop off a lot of A.S.C. people at Malta and then I presume we go on to Alexandria (about another 3 days).  By the way Major Luttley said he would do his best to find out any information about me for you if I ever get into the thick of it and don’t send you any news.   His home address is Brockhampton, Herefordshire.  Also 2/1 Worcestershire Yeomanry, c/o G.P.O.  I hope this need won’t occur.  I don’t expect so.   Well there is no news.  We get a few Marconi messages.  There was a Zepplin raid on London, also that the Bulgarians are not
