My Dear Mabel,

I was very glad to get your letter (Jan 23rd) about 3 days ago. It was the first I had had for ages. I have since had one from Biddy + one from Mrs Lan. dated 28th – 30th respectively – God knows where all the other letters for Jan. have gone. I was glad to hear the Baby behaved intelligently + showed her disapproval of the carpet! I see from Biddy’s letter that she has been up again to see Granny. I gather from Mrs Lan’s letter that her eyes have now changed to brown – also that she is getting better looking and shows likelihood of growing up like ‘my eldest sister.’ I suppose that means projecting teeth! I am afraid Biddy isn’t so fit as the Baby. She does too much – It would be money well spent if she had a woman in for an hour or so per day to wash the baby’s nappies etc. Do try + persuade her to do so. She takes no notice of my letters unless I’m there to kick her! How is Ailsa getting on with her nursing? What hospital has she gone to? Is it a London one? I am finishing this tomorrow morning so to speak. There is a mail leaving in a few minutes. It is going to be a wet day I fear. Must stop. No news. I am chiefly occupied in teaching signallers to play wag nowadays. Much love to all of you.

Yours,
Brian.

P.S. Please tell Dad to send me 4 pairs cord laces. They don’t last long tho’ longer than leather ones – packets of chocolate etc. are always welcome. I like Mexican best. It doesn’t get too dry.
